Areas of Focus

The ICD’s Areas of Focus define the societal fields in which we work and the questions we explore from scientific, practical, and human perspectives. They form the foundation of our research, consulting activities, and public policy engagement.

Accessible Communication & Participation

Accessible communication is the foundation of democratic participation. The ICD examines how people encounter barriers in language, information, and institutional processes—and how communication can be designed to promote access, empowerment, and human dignity.

Institutional Clarity & Administrative Processes

Many people do not struggle with the content itself, but with complex and opaque administrative structures.

The ICD analyzes how institutional communication functions, where barriers emerge, and how administrative processes can be made more understandable, humane, and accessible.

Research, Practice & Social Reality

The ICD connects academic knowledge with real-life experiences.

Our work is based on documented cases, interdisciplinary perspectives, and practice-oriented analyses that demonstrate how communication succeeds—or fails—in everyday life.

Political Communication & Civic Participation

Democratic participation is only possible when people understand the issues that affect them.

The ICD develops approaches that make political information more accessible, strengthen civic participation, and foster trust between citizens, researchers, and public institutions.
